Teletubbies’ Sun baby Jess Smith has welcomed her first baby with her long-term boyfriend Ricky Latham.
On Monday, Jess Smith announced the joyful news on her Instagram page but did not disclose the baby’s name or gender yet.
Jessica Smith, who is now in her late twenties, appeared in every episode of the beloved children’s show from 1997 to 2003.
Jess shared a photo of the newborn’s hand to share with the world her arrival, penning alongside the picture: ‘One whole week of you’.
The mother-of-one was inundated with congratulatory messages after announcing the happy news.
One user wrote: ‘Oooh. Congratulations. Good luck with being a mom. You can do it. You’re gonna be a super mom. Enjoy the love and enjoy being together.’
Another added: ‘Yay. The sun babies baby! Congratulation :)’
Teletubbies debuted on screens in 1997 and centered on four differently coloured characters known as the Teletubbies.
It quickly became a pop culture phenomenon and won multiple BAFTA awards during its original run.
Jess told the BBC South East in 2015 it was by pure chance she landed her role on the show.
‘I was being weighed at the hospital,’ she said. ‘My mum took me and it just happened to be the same time that the producer of the old series had come in and wanted the hospital to get in contact with them if they’d seen any smiley babies.’
Jess Smith revealed her father would sit behind the cameras playing toys and cars to make her do her famous giggle heard on the show.
It wasn’t until 2015 that she revealed her identity after previously preferring to keep it a secret.
She said: ‘I used to hide it but after a lot of encouragement from my friends at university, I’ve gained the confidence to come out with it.’
‘I am the sun from the Teletubbies. Everyone says they can see the likeness between my face now and me as a baby.
‘I still have a baby face. I haven’t changed much either. I am still giggly.’
