Things To Know Before Getting Married In The Redeemed Christian Church Of God

As far as marriage is concerned, there are procedures to be taken at every given step. And for church marriages, there are due protocols to be observed according to doctrines, rules, and beliefs.

For anyone lucky enough to fall in love with a lady from The Redeemed Christian Church Of God, there are protocols to be observed and other procedures one must follow
1)The parish pastor of the church must know of an ongoing relationship that has the intent of marriage, the pastor must be familiar with the bride to be and her fiance must be seen and known about within those months, bearing in mind that both couples must undergo a 6-month courtship period with the knowledge of their pastor. Any couple who wants to get married must have been in courtship for at least six (6) months before the church can approve of the wedding
2) Counselling: At this point, both couples will meet with a team of pastors, and teachers who will counsel, admonish, and pray with them for a month. During this period, selected teachers will go to the groom’s house to inspect it. Both parties will be given a consent form and the couple will be told all the necessary criteria that must be fulfilled.
The Couples would also not fix their wedding dates until they have obtained clearance from the Marriage Counseling ministry and the Area pastor of the church. Spouses residing outside town must see their counselor, at least, three times before the wedding day
3) At least 4 weeks to the wedding date, the Bride’s wedding dress, the chief bridesmaid dress and one of the bridesmaid’s dresses must be presented to the marriage committee for fitting/inspection/approval. Traditional wedding gowns are also not allowed. You are required to wear decent calf-length dress and only short veils are allowed.
4) The bride will be required to take a pregnancy test at the church designated hospital weeks before the wedding and a week to the wedding amongst other tests. The groom is also not exempted as he will also undergo series of tests at the church designated hospital
5) A week or two to the ceremony, the pastor will call both couples to the church and officially announce to the church about their intention to get wedded in the church. In this period there will be rehearsal in church for both parties, the couples will also have to present a  Marriage Clearance Certificate from the Local Government Marriage Registry.

This certificate must be presented to the Marriage Committee at least, one week before the wedding date. If you are marrying someone from another church, your spouse must obtain a letter of introduction, duly signed, from his/her church. The letter must also confirm that such a person is fit to be joined by the church

It is very important to note that all couples in courtship must successfully finish the compulsory intending couples counseling classes before wedding day.
The church would not participate in the wedding of any couple who fails to complete the programme, no matter where the wedding is taking place
