  1. Your budget
This is one of the most important steps in making the decision as your budget plays a great role in your choice. Live Bands are typically more expensive than a DJ due to their numbers and equipment. A DJ is all alone and so his services do not cost so much.
  2. Your wedding style
When choosing a band, ask for their song list and make sure that they specialize in the genres that you like best. Find out their policy about taking specific song requests and what their approach is to making announcements to make sure it fits in with your style. You can also ask about what the performers wear, and if you can have input so that the band aesthetic matches the overall tone for your wedding.
  3. Your wedding venue
A small space will never be a good choice for a live band as they need enough space to perform, arrange equipment, and also for their members.  A DJ needs a little space to set up his equipment and deliver a mind-blowing performance.
  4. Your guest list
Typically your guest list will play a great role in your choice of music to ensure that everyone is fully catered for. If your guest list has a higher number of young people then your wedding should have a DJ because they are more current playlists and a Live Band has more with the classics.
  5. Your music taste
Your taste in music determines the music policy for your wedding. If you love certain types of sound then a DJ is a perfect fit for your big day and if you love and adore live music then a live band was made for you.
  6. Logistics
Power supply, scheduling, setup, soundcheck, and breakdown on the day of the event will determine what choice you eventually make. Find out when they plan to leave. If you want to have them stick around for the after-party, negotiate this.

  7. Flexibility
Some bands and DJs are ready and willing to take all sorts of requests from you and your guests. Others come with a specific list of things they’re comfortable doing. If you’re sure there’s only a few select styles you want, handing over setlist control to someone who specializes in specific types of music can set the tone of your wedding beforehand. On the other hand, having flexibility lets you insert more of your own personality into the mix and gives you mood options that you can switch up during the party. Which one sounds more like you?
