10 Signs Your Partner Is Controlling

A controlling partner isn’t always overtly threatening or aggressive. Sometimes they are emotionally manipulative and acting out of insecurity.

Below is 10 signs your partner is controlling.

Isolating you from friends and family: If they complain how often you spend time with your family or friends and try to isolate you from them, it means that your partner is controlling.

Not respecting your need for time alone: Making you feel guilty for time you need on your own, or making you feel like you don’t love them enough when you need less time with them.

They gaslight you: If you’re upset about something they told you last week, they’ll deny ever having said it and that it’s all in your mind. They make you seem crazy.

They criticise you: A controlling person will attempt to undermine your confidence by making jabs at you in private or public.

Blame you for everything: A controlling partner immediately take on the role of the victim and blame you for everything that goes wrong, even things that have nothing to do with you.

Hiding innocent things: If there are a lot of secrets you’re keeping for fear of judgment or the way they might respond. This a sign they are controlling.

Overactive jealousy, accusations, or paranoia: A partner who views every interaction you have as being flirtatious, is suspicious or threatened by multiple people you come in contact with. If he tells you to change in order to please them. They are very controlling.

Spying: Whether they keep their snooping secret or openly demand that you must share everything with them. If your partner checks your phone, logs into your email, or constantly tracks your Internet history, they are controlling.

Presuming you’re guilty until proven innocent: A controlling partner is very skilled at making you feel that you’ve done something wrong even before you realise what you did. You may walk in the door to find them already angry about something that they found.
