Tell someone you trust about your date plans
Rule number one, tell a friend, a sibling, or even your parents where exactly you intend to go and who you are going with. If you can get your hands on the person’s photos do so and send them to everyone you trust. This is one safety tip that shouldn’t be joked about.
Make sure you meet in a public place
We cannot stop emphasizing how important this is, you are never to go to an isolated place on your first date. Make sure you set your date for a public place where you know for sure there’ll be lots of other people around. Go somewhere you are familiar with and not the person’s house. Not only will this decrease your chances of being put in an unsafe situation, but other people may also remember you being in that location, in the event something does happen to you.
    Don’t leave your drink unattended
Regardless of what you are drinking, be it alcohol or water never leave it unattended. If you wish to go to the bathroom it is better to finish your drink before going or throw it out and order a new one when you get back. If your date has a problem with that, the issue is with them, not you.

    Stay sober
There’s nothing wrong with going out for a drink on a first date, but it is generally advisable not to get drunk. Drinking leads to lowered inhibitions, the reduced ability to assess risks and make good choices, prevents the ability to give consent, and makes it harder to fight back should someone try to sexually assault you. So even if you decide to have drinks on your first date make sure to stay sober at all times. If you are reaching your limit then stop drinking.
    Leave if you feel uncomfortable
If you feel uncomfortable at any point, get out of there. No need to hesitate, one red flag is enough. Watch out for anything they say, do, or imply that makes you think twice. Follow your instinct and act quickly.

    Plan your transportation
Most people (especially ladies) make a big mistake at this point. It is called a first date, the first time you get to hang out with someone new, don’t leave your home thinking and believe the guy should be responsible for your transportation. He may be inclined to buy the foods or drinks but honey!! have some respect for yourself and pay your transportation back home. If you don’t have money just sit down at your house and don’t go anywhere.
    Pack the appropriate items
Make sure that you never leave for a first date without your cell phone and a wallet with cash. You might end up splitting the bill. You will need your cell phone to send and receive texts and phone calls, and it may be handy in case of an emergency.

Run a background check if you can
Google them, one way or another you will get information on the person you are supposed to go on the date with. If you can’t do it yourself, get your friend or someone you trust to do it. Running a background check is just to be cautious to know the kind of person you will be meeting and if it is worth it.
